A consistent writing style is important for presenting the university, and its programs and services, in a professional, understandable manner. The university-selected style for general communications is based on Associated Press style. AP Style is a standard in journalism and is widely used by other institutions and corporations. The AP Stylebook is available at the ASU Bookstore or through online subscription.

The ASU Style Guide is an addendum to the AP Stylebook. This guide covers university-specific terms, as well as modifications and exceptions to AP Style.

Colleges, schools and institutes at ASU may have specific style points regarding their names or personnel. The college naming conventions take precedence. The following have unit-specific style guides:
