The standards in this section of the Communications Guide apply to all institutional web sites (colleges, schools, departments, administrative units, institutes, centers, programs, divisions, etc.) regardless of domain: .edu, .com, .org, etc.
The ASU Web site is governed by the Web Editorial Board. The board sets direction and standards that apply to all pages on the site. All institutional web pages must also conform to the requirements of ACD 125, the university's policy on computer, internet and electronic communications.
All institutional web pages must include appropriate contact information, such as email address, mailing address, physical location, and/or phone number. Any contact listed on a web page must be able to respond to inquiries about the page/site in a timely manner, i.e., 2 business days or less. This contact information may link to a web form instead of an individual email address.
Use of music on web pages
ASU has license agreements with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP); Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI); and SESAC. Music that is managed by one of these organizations can be used on a web page that has "ASU" in the URL, provided the web page does not directly generate revenue. ASU's music license agreements do not cover music that is used on websites without "ASU" in the name.
Permission to use music that is not managed by one of the three above organizations must be obtained in writing from the rights owner. Please be aware when requesting permission that a composer may or may not own the rights to a particular composition.
